With a strong offense and confident attitude, varsity girls’ basketball dominated the MacDonald High School Condors on Jan. 28 for the second time this season, with a final score of 52-19.
The Mustangs kicked off the game with persistent offensive plays. During the quarter, both guards, senior Sejal Singh and junior Mary Abalos, scored the first shots of the game, putting HHS in the lead. The Mustangs continued to score throughout the quarter, and with just four seconds to spare, guard, senior Leona Kovaci sank a 3-pointer.
Moving onto the second quarter, Singh defended the Mustangs’ lead, blocking a strong shot from the Condors. As the game continued, HHS continued to dominate over MacDonald with power forward, senior Vedhikaa Medampalli securing a 2-point shot for the Mustangs, followed by Kovaci scoring for the second time.
In the final minutes of the second quarter, Kovaci made a 3-point shot to bring the score to 34-10 as the game halted for halftime.
The Mustangs continued to run defensive plays, but fell short as the Condors scored a 3-point shot to start the third quarter. However, the Mustangs quickly returned with a 2-pointer, tapping back into a competitive flow.
With a score of 42-15, the Mustangs were leading against the Condors, who struggled to defend themselves. Attempting to change their strategy, the MacDonald coaches called for a time-out in the middle of the third quarter.
Due to the intensity of the Mustangs’ offensive and defensive maneuvers throughout the game, the Condors struggled to keep up and could not score a single basket during the final quarter.
As the final buzzer rang, the game came to an end, resulting in a victory for the Mustangs with a score of 52-19.
The Mustangs will end their season later this month on Feb. 17 in a game against CHS.
