The annual homecoming dance will take place Oct. 10 in the field house, social event manager, junior Maya Power said. Following this, from Oct. 14-17, homecoming week will further promote school spirit through campus-wide activities with rallies, stage performances centered around the “Battle of the Bands” theme and the float parade, Power said.

To ensure a successful homecoming dance, ASB social event managers have been organizing logistics for the Homecoming dance since the beginning of summer, Power said.
“We’re trying to accommodate for a large amount of people this year,” Power said. “We want to make sure everyone will have space, have a good time and have enough to eat and drink [to] actually enjoy themselves.”
To encourage greater student participation, ASB has modified the decorating float party times and added more engaging activities, social event manager, senior Armaan Malkani said.
“We wanted to get more engagement,” Malkani said. “We wanted to make it seem less of an ASB thing, that people have a negative connotation towards, but more like an event that’s open to everyone [where] they can socialize and it be an overall fun experience.”
Throughout the preparation process, new ASB sustainability commissioners have been tasked with regulating budgets and ensuring environmental consideration, ASB advisor Hector Almendarez said.
“Wherever we can reuse, we are,” Almendarez said. “Whenever we have to recycle, we are, and by large, we aren’t going super overboard or being irresponsible with the use of materials.”
Although acquiring city permits for the parade and DJs for the dance has slowed progress, preparations are continuing with minimal issues, Almendarez said.
Hoping to build a sense of community, Malkani said the events hosted throughout the Homecoming dance and week encourage students to express school spirit.
“Practicing sustainability, showing up, dressing out, attending the parade and attending football games are all ways to show support,” Malkani said. “Even though some people might feel like [school] spirit can be a bit cliché, it’s really important that people feel a sense of connectivity among each other.”
