On Feb. 4, students from HHS, FHS and Sunnyvale Middle School walked out of their fifth period classes to attend an anti-ICE protest at Sunnyvale city hall. To prepare for this, students created unique handmade signs expressing protest messages. The signs contributed to a powerful protest atmosphere and allowed attending students to voice their own opinions amid the cacophony of group chants throughout the demonstration.

“We are the next generation of leaders. What we see in our social media is being censored, and what we can talk about in school is being controlled,” organizer Imaan Syed said. “That’s why our First Amendment rights are important, [so] that we can speak about anything we want to and continue to show out.”
